Montserrat’s Belham Valley has become impassable after heavy overnight rain caused flooding in the area, the Disaster Management Coordination Agency has said.
In a public advisory posted on 20 April, the agency added that it has closed Zone 5 (Plymouth) and suspended sand mining and tour operations for the whole day.
“All three crossings of the Belham Valley are not passable at this time, due to overnight rains from the presence of a surface trough in the vicinity,” the advisory said.
The Isles Bay Beach Bar is also closed.
The advisory warned residents at Isles Bay Hill and Woodsville, sand miners and other members of the public to not attempt to cross Belham Valley.
“It is dangerous and vehicles can be swept away or stalled in flowing water,” it continued, adding that a further update would be given later in the day.
