A scale model of Montserrat’s New National Hospital will soon be available to see at a different community location.
It has been on display for public viewing in the main foyer of the Bank of Montserrat since December, but will soon be moved, according to the Programme Management Office.
Architecture firm Article 25 designed the 57,000 square foot, three-storey healthcare facility to be resilient to hurricanes and earthquakes and ensuring complete accessibility.
It will house 25 beds in a blend of wards and individual rooms, dedicated acute mental health rooms, two operating theatre suites, and a full diagnostic suite.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s Capital Investment Programme for Resilient Economic Growth and the Governor’s Office in Montserrat are funding the project.
It is expected to be completed by 2026.
Moving forward
On 8 December, the Ministry of Health and Social Services announced the start of refurbishments to the former Margetson Memorial Home
Montserrat based construction company, Harewood Construction, is retrofitting the building to temporarily accommodate some hospital services including pharmacy, laboratory, kitchen and laundry.
This is slated for completion in the second quarter of this year.
In order to ensure high standards are met, the Ministry of Health and Social Services and the Programme Management Office are overseeing the works.
The government conducted public information sessions on the New National Hospital on 11 and 12 December with representatives from Article 25, project managers and health officials.
