Esteemed radiologist Dr Sundeep Shah paid a visit to Glendon Hospital to help Montserrat’s radiology team prepare for the rollout of mammogram and CT scan services.
Dr Shah is the head of the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Jamaica and has played a significant role in advancing radiology services.
During his visit from 13 to 27 September, he looked at key objectives critical to the success of the island’s healthcare venture, a press release from the Ministry of Health and Social Services said.
They included development and review of diagnostic protocols, development of a departmental plan, equipment training, enhancing radiologic techniques, quality and safety procedures and more.
In a review of his visit Dr Shah said the radiographers and doctors had undergone training and key objectives had been successfully completed.
He hailed the work the radiology team and said he was impressed with their adherence to guidelines and procedures and dedication to compassionate care.
In the press release, Antoinette Silcott, senior radiographer in Glendon Hospital, said she welcomed the expansion of services.
“A fully functioning radiology department is critical to enhancing patient care through accurate diagnosis and the early detection of disease,” she said.
“We, the radiographers, eagerly anticipate the finalisation of the process so these new services can be offered to the people of Montserrat.”
A blessing ceremony was held for the CT scanner and a mammography suite at the site of the former Margetson Memorial Home on 4 September.
The ministry said the official launch of the radiology services will be announced “in the very near future”.
