Man accused of raping a child granted bail ahead of December hearing

A man who has been charged with the rape and grievous sexual assault of a child in Montserrat has been granted bail.

The accused, who the Royal Montserrat Police Service has not yet identified, appeared in Magistrate’s Court on 14 October.

According to a police Facebook post on 18 October, he was granted conditional bail with one surety and the matter has been adjourned to 16 December.

“The Royal Montserrat Police Service continues its work to ensure the safety and protection of vulnerable individuals, especially minors, in our community,” the post continued.

“We urge anyone with information relating to such crimes to contact the safeguarding team.”

Police also reported that two men were arrested in Montserrat on 16 October in connection with a sexual offence case involving an adult female.

They provided no additional details, aside from confirming that the investigation is ongoing and that the service “remains vigilant in ensuring that justice is served”.
