PDM thanks supporters as party retains opposition leadership

The People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) party has thanked its supporters after capturing three of the nine available seats in the Montserrat Legislative Assembly.

The result means that Paul Lewis will continue to lead the official opposition, and will be joined in parliament by fellow PDM members Donaldson Romeo and Nyota Mulcare.

The party released a Facebook statement on 26 October in which it expressed gratitude to all of its supporters, voters and friends across Montserrat and the diaspora.

“As we reflect on the journey of this election, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to each of you who stood with PDM, believed in the mission, and shared in the vision,” it read.

“Though the results may not have turned in our favour, PDM’s commitment to ‘People First’ remains unwavering.”

The party said it is “incredibly proud” of the hard work, dedication, and passion of everyone who supported the PDM.

“To our campaign teams on Election Day, who gave their time, energy, and heart – thank you.

“To every voter who cast their ballot for PDM, believing in the drive to build a Montserrat that puts people first, PDM remains forever grateful.”

The statement said the election was only one step in a longer journey.

PDM’s vision of a Montserrat where every citizen can thrive, where the cost of living is fair, jobs are accessible, and healthcare, education, and opportunity are available to all – this vision does not end here.

“PDM may not hold the leadership, but we will continue to advocate, to serve, and to support initiatives that lift up our beautiful island.”

The party also acknowledged those who continued to make calls and send messages following the election.

“Your unwavering support is a reminder of the work that still lies ahead, and PDM is ready to keep pushing forward,” the statement concluded.

The PDM previously held four seats in parliament, but will now be joined by Crenston Buffonge of the former ruling party, the Movement for Change and Prosperity.
