French online news and features website Journee Mondiale has named Montserrat as one of its top spots for remote workers.
Titled ‘25 beach towns where remote work meets paradise: A digital nomad’s dream‘, the article puts Brades, the island’s de facto capital, in position number five.
The extract, named ‘Caribbean serenity meets remote work paradise’, talks about the island’s natural beauty, its low crime rate and peaceful surroundings.
“Ever dreamed of working from a Caribbean island? Brades, Montserrat, might be your answer,” the online magazine says.
“This tiny island offers a serene environment with no visa requirements for stays up to six months.
“The low crime rate and friendly locals make it an ideal spot for those seeking tranquility without sacrificing connectivity.
“After work, explore the island’s volcanic landscapes or take a dip in the crystal-clear waters. It’s like having your own private paradise office!”
Among the other destinations named are Portugal, Spain, Anguilla, Croatia, Morocco, India, Mauritius, USA, and Nicaragua.
Remote work for one year
The Montserrat Remote Workers Stamp, which costs $500 for a single person or $750 for families of up to three defendants, allows foreign residents to work remotely in Montserrat for one year.
Applicants must work for an employer that is registered in a foreign country and have a contract of work with that employer.
Or conduct business activity for a company that is registered in a foreign country and of which they are a partner/shareholder.
Or offer freelance or consulting services mostly to clients whose permanent establishments are in a foreign country and with whom they have contracts.
They must also earn an annual income of US$70,000, and have health insurance with Montserrat and Covid-19 coverage.
