The government has produced and published two brochures in a bid to encourage members of the United Kingdom’s private sector to invest in Montserrat.
The publications, titled ‘Montserrat: An Island on the Move‘ and ‘Renewable Energy Opportunities in Montserrat‘, provide readers with an overview of investment opportunities on the island.
The first is a ten-page document on investment that talks about the island’s core strengths, strategic vision, investment opportunities, and services available to UK investors.
A joint foreword from Governor Sarah Tucker and Premier Reuben Meade describes Montserrat as standing out as a “unique gateway” for UK investors to the wider Caribbean community.
“As the only British overseas territory that is a full member of CARICOM, Montserrat offers a strategic platform for businesses looking to access this regional market,” they continue.
“Our island’s British legal framework, coupled with its Caribbean ties, provides investors with both familiarity and a bridge to the broader Caribbean economic landscape.
“With Montserrat, UK investors gain a direct link to a vibrant and growing market, rooted in strong trade relations and mutual investment opportunities within the CARICOM network.”
Renewable energy
The second 17-page document looks in-depth at Montserrat’s renewable energy investment opportunities and includes details of strategic vision, infrastructure, and local workforce capacity.
A foreword from Tucker and Meade says Montserrat’s strategic focus on renewable energy and the blue economy reflects the island’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
“With proven geothermal resources and opportunities in solar, wind energy and other renewable energy sources, Montserrat is positioned to become a model for green energy in the Caribbean,” it says.
“Our ambitious renewable energy initiatives are designed to reduce dependency on imported fuels, lower energy costs, and ensure energy security for generations to come.
“This transition to clean energy creates significant investment opportunities and aligns with our goals of climate resilience and sustainable economic development.”
The project was funded by the UK government’s Green and Inclusive Growth Centre of Expertise, which provides mechanisms to access the best local and global expertise to support economic development
It is part of the UK-Montserrat Trade and Private Sector Investment Project led by the Governor’s Office in partnership with the government.
The brochures will be shared during John Osborne, Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Housing, Environment and Sports, and his team’s visit to the UK-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum in London this week.
