Residents and visitors to Montserrat are invited to register now for the annual Walk Across Montserrat to raise money for children’s afterschool education.
For a US$35 registration fee, participants will receive a t-shirt and entry to the community event which takes place from 6am on Saturday, 15 March, 2025.
Those who register before 31 December will also receive a free training plan to help prepare them for the walk from Plymouth Wharf to Carr’s Bay.
All proceeds will go to The Montserrat BrainTrust, an affordable afterschool programme for children aged seven to 17.
The Walk Across Montserrat website says the registration fee is a “valuable donation” to the work of learning facility.
“The fun and inspiration you will enjoy as you Walk Across Montserrat is our gift to you, in exchange for your donation,” it reads.
“100% of your donation will fund the provision of exciting and educational programmes for the children we serve and help advance Montserrat’s development.
“By providing even this small Walk Across Montserrat registration donation, you become part of an effort to provide educational assistance, life-skills training and personal development support for Montserrat’s children and families.”
Shirley Osborne founded The Montserrat BrainTrust in 2017 to offer holiday workshops for children from ages eight to 11.
In 2019, she opened the afterschool club three days a week and one Saturday a month.
Osborne is deeply committed to the idea that national advancement must follow upon personal development and that education is the primary vehicle for both, the website says.
She was educated primarily in Montserrat, the UK and the USA, and holds an MBA from Simmons University in Boston, Massachusetts.
