‘Wildly underrated’ Montserrat features on popular travel website

Montserrat’s reputation as a hidden gem for travellers seeking unique and tranquil experiences continues to grow, with the island spotlighted this week on the popular travel website, islands.com.

In an article titled, ‘The Caribbean’s wildly underrated ‘Emerald Isle’ is a tropical paradise of volcanoes, beaches, and jungle’, author Angelica Tobit talks about the island’s natural beauty and charm.

She describes Montserrat as having lush greenery and a rugged coastline with “untouched natural beauty and rich culture”.

“What’s more, as one of the Caribbean’s least visited islands, remains unspoiled by mass tourism, making it the perfect getaway for those seeking tranquility away from crowded tourist hotspots,” she says.

The article, published on 6 January, talks about Montserrat’s shifting sovereignty over the years, its Irish heritage and the weeks long St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

“In addition to its vibrant history, the island boasts welcoming locals, flavourful cuisine, stunning beaches, and incredible natural wonders,” Tobit writes.

“This unique combination of culture and adventure makes Montserrat a truly inspiring destination.”

The article goes into the Soufriere Hills volcano eruption, describing opportunities for visitors to explore the island’s unique volcanic landscape and learn about its impact on Montserrat.

“For those looking to observe volcano safety, the Montserrat Volcano Observatory offers stunning views of the summit and insights into the island’s volcanic activity,” Tobit says.

She finishes by offering tourists some tips on the top things to see and do on the island, including kayaking, hiking, snorkelling, and walking along the black sand beaches.

Finally, she highlights the opportunity to view some unique flora and fauna, such as watching leatherback and hawksbill turtles lay their eggs or visiting Montserrat National Trust’s Botanical Gardens.
