Fish ‘N Fins invites public to send evidence of sea turtle sightings

A marine conservation non-profit based in Montserrat is asking the public to submit photos or videos of any sea turtle sightings around the island.

Fish ‘N Fins said that it is limited to how much data on the turtle population it can gather on its own due to budgetary constraints.

All information gathered will contribute to the Montserrat Marine Megafauna Project’s science research goals.

These are to identify the presence and diversity of megafauna – large animal species – and establish baseline data to inform local marine management in Montserrat.

In a Facebook post on 20 January, the organisation said: “Your pictures or videos of any sea turtles you encounter are invaluable to our conservation efforts.

“Due to budgetary constraints, we can’t collect all the data we need on our own, so your contributions help us assess turtle populations, understand demographics and track changes over time.

“Together, we can make significant strides in protecting these magnificent creatures and their habitats.”

The non-profit said photos and videos can be sent via direct message to their Facebook group ‘Fish ‘N Fins’ or by filling in the form here.
