Artists from across the region are invited to enter a competition to design and paint a large mural inside Royal Caribbean’s new ship, Star of the Seas.
Four people will be selected to create art installations in one of four marquee locations before the ship begins its Caribbean voyages in August.
Each will receive a grant from Royal Caribbean, ranging from $20,000 to over $100,000, to bring their vision to life.
The ‘Royal Caribbean Artist Discovery Programme’ is dedicated to showcasing emerging local artists from the Caribbean, a press release from the Caribbean Tourism Organisation said.
It will “provide them a platform to highlight their creativity, talent and culture to millions of guests who sail with Royal Caribbean each year”, it added.
The winners will collaborate with Royal Caribbean’s Newbuild team in Turku, Finland, where Star of the Seas is currently under construction. Travel and accommodation will be provided.
To enter, artists must send five work samples, their CV and a statement to artsubmission@rccl.com
Artists can find out more about the competition here. The deadline for the competition is 15 February and the first round selections will be announced on 15 March.
