A UK-based charity that raises funds for vital healthcare equipment in Montserrat has published a cookbook to support its initiatives.
Blending culinary tradition with community support, Helping Hands for Glendon has compiled a collection of recipes from near and far.
Spokesperson Denise Scantlebury told Montserrat Focus the cookbook features a diverse selection of starters, mains, desserts and a few surprises.
“The idea for the cookbook transpired after having many conversations with individuals from the diaspora who wanted to be a part of our fundraising initiative and to give back to Montserrat,” she said.
The book is a collaborative effort, with people from Montserrat and beyond submitting their own recipes.
“We felt that the cookbook was great way of connecting people together through food and a shared interest in the beautiful island of Montserrat,” Scantlebury said.
“The recipes in the cookbook reflect a wide range cultures bringing different communities together for a common cause.”
The cookbook is priced at EC$50, £15, or US$20 and can be ordered by emailing hello@helpinghandsforglendon.org or by filling in the form at www.helpinghandsforglendon.org/
It is available in the UK now and copies will be ready for sale in Montserrat from the end of July.
Proceeds from sales will go towards purchasing life-saving medical equipment, with a particular focus on dialysis machines.
Scantlebury thanked the late Ron Barzey also known as ‘Ron the Don’ Barzey who contributed to the cookbook.
Helping Hands for Glendon is planning further fundraising events throughout the year, including a concert currently in the works.
