Christmas message: Opposition leader talks celebration and community

Opposition leader Paul Lewis spoke of an eventful 2024, the spirit of collaboration and his hopes for the coming year in his Christmas message.

He said: “”Fellow citizens, residents and visitors, as we come together to celebrate this joyous Christmas season, let us pause to reflect on the year that has passed and give thanks to God for his mercies and blessings that guided us throughout the year thus far.

“2024 has been an eventful year for our beloved Montserrat, marked by challenges and opportunities.

“As we look ahead, I urge all to remember that true progress is measured by how it uplifts the lives of all, leaving no one behind.

“To our cherished visitors who have returned home for the year end carnival celebrations, welcome back. Your presence breathes life into this season of festivity and togetherness.

“Carnival is a celebration of who we are. It showcases our rich culture, the enduring bonds of family and the unifying spirit that defines our identity.

“It is a time to revel in our creativity, honour our resilience, and find joy in coming together as one people.

“I want to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to all who have worked tirelessly this year to keep Montserrat thriving – those in the public service and private enterprises.

“To community leaders and volunteers, your dedication and commitment have shaped our progress. You are the pillars of this society, and your efforts inspire hope for an even brighter future.

“As we prepare to welcome 2025, let us pray for a better economy – one that brings more jobs, greater opportunities and lasting prosperity for everyone.

“Let us also commit to fostering a spirit of collaboration and resilience, so that together we can overcome the challenges that lie ahead.

“This Christmas, let us cherish the moments with our families and loved ones, reflect on our blessings and look to the New Year with renewed hope.

“May peace, love and the true spirit of giving fill your hearts and homes during this festive season. Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. May God bless you and may God bless Montserrat.”
