Montserrat suffered an unlucky 1-0 defeat to Bonaire, just days after celebrating a hard-fought victory against the same team in the Concacaf Nations League.
The group stage game, held at the Arnos Vale Stadium in St Vincent on Sunday, 13 October, marked the team’s third loss in the regional competition.
After a strong start from Montserrat, Bonaire’s Ayrton Cicilia netted the only goal of the match from the centre of the box in the 28th minute, giving his team a crucial lead.
The rest of the game was marked by lively exchanges, with both teams generating several attempts on goal, but neither side managed to score again before the final whistle.
The loss dropped Montserrat to the bottom of the group with just three points, while Bonaire’s victory has lifted them to third place with a total of four points.
Leading the pack is El Salvador with nine points after winning three out of four of its games to date, and St Vincent is in second place with seven points.
Earlier in the Concacaf Nations League campaign, Montserrat lost 4-1 to El Salvador on 5 September and 2-0 to St Vincent on 8 September.
The team then beat Bonaire 1-0 in their previous matchup on 10 October.
