Montserrat endured a challenging start to their Concacaf Nations League campaign this week, losing 4-1 to El Salvador.
The group stage game, held at the Stadion Antonio Trenidat in Bonaire on Thursday, 5 September, marked the team’s first defeat in the regional competition.
Despite an early lead from El Salvador’s Bryan Landaverde in the 14th minute, Montserrat rallied, with Brandon Barzey levelling the score in the 29th minute.
But it was all downhill for Montserrat after halftime, with goals from El Salvador’s Emerson Mauricio, Tereso Benítez in the 63rd and 68th minute.
The opposing team secured its win with a penalty from Kevin Santamaría in the 85th minute.
The loss leaves Montserrat at the bottom of the group with zero points.
