Defence force engages in tactical exercises in zones A, B and C

The Royal Montserrat Defence Force is conducting a week-long field training camp, building on the success of weekend camps held in October.

The exercise began on Friday, 15 November, and is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, 24 November.

Throughout the camp, personnel are engaging in tactical exercises and manoeuvres across zones A, B, and C, a Facebook statement from the defence force said on 18 November.

Zone A is situated south of Nantes River and includes Salem, Frith, Flemmings, parts of Olveston and Old Towne and the upper part of Happy Hill.

Zone B includes Isles Bay, Belham, Waterworks, parts of Old Towne, and the lower part of Happy Hill.

Meanwhile, Zone C includes Cork Hill, Weekes, Fox’s Bay, Richmond Hill and Delvins.

The volcano hazard level is 1, which means there has been no surface activity for an extended period, so all of these zones are currently unrestricted.

“Members of the public are kindly advised to avoid these training activities to ensure their safety and that of the personnel involved,” the statement said.

“The RMDF extends heartfelt appreciation to the community, especially to employers, for their unwavering support in accommodating time off for personnel to participate in this vital training.

“This collaboration underscores the collective effort to maintain readiness and resilience for Montserrat’s security.”

Montserrat Focus has reached out to the defence force for clarification on the exact locations where the training is taking place and is awaiting a response.
