Disaster officials launch social media weather pages for Montserrat

The Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA) has launched new Montserrat Weather pages on social media to share timely, island-specific weather updates.

The goal is to keep weather alerts separate from the the agency’s main disaster management channels, which will stay focused on prevention, preparedness, response and recovery efforts.

The platforms will provide real-time forecasts and alerts, helping residents stay informed and ready for changing conditions.

“Time-critical information shared through our social media platforms during an emergency can help save lives,” said Shirlian Queeley, information and education officer at the DMCA, in a Facebook post.

The separation of Montserrat Weather from the DMCA’s core social media platforms allows for a more streamlined approach, ensuring that time-sensitive weather information reaches residents quickly.

It will also prevent crucial updates on disaster risk management from being overshadowed by frequent weather posts, the post said.

The agency is also looking to expand Montserrat Weather’s reach by creating a dedicated section on the DMCA’s official website dmca.gov.ms

This will provide an additional option for those who prefer to access information outside of social media, as well as through traditional media such as ZJB Radio.

The social media pages can be accessed by clicking the following links: Facebook, Instagram and X.
