Diane Parish, a British actor with family ties to Montserrat, has been nominated for a prestigious MOBO Award.
She is up for an award in the category ‘Best performance in a TV show/film’ for her over decade-long role as Denise Fox in the long-running television soap series Eastenders.
In an Instagram post announcing her nomination, Parish said she is “chuffed to bits” and thanked her followers for their love and support.
Meanwhile, the Montserrat Government UK Office extended heartfelt congratulations to Parish on her nomination in a Facebook post.
“This recognition highlights Diane’s exceptional talent and dedication to her craft, and we are immensely proud of her achievements,” it reads.
The post explains that the MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards are a significant institution within the Black British community and across the United Kingdom.
For nearly three decades they have celebrated the invaluable contributions of Black artists and performers to British culture.
“Diane’s nomination exemplifies the importance of representation and recognition for Black talent in the creative industries, both nationally and internationally,” the government office says.
Parish was born in London to a Montserratian mother and a Dominican father. The post says that Parish’s heritage is a point of pride for the island.
“Her success is a testament to the strength, resilience, and creativity that characterise the people of Montserrat,” it reads.
“Through her work, she has brought honour to our community and serves as an inspiration to Montserratians around the world.”
The MOBO Awards will take place in Newcastle, UK, on 18 February, 2025. To vote for Parish visit: https://voting.mobo.com/
