Emerald Azzurra makes first visit to Montserrat this season

The luxury yacht Emerald Azzurra made its first of a series of visits to Montserrat this season as part of Emerald Cruises’ regional adventure tour.

Built just two years ago, the 361 foot boat with an infinity pool and observation deck can carry up to 100 guests in its 50 cabins along with 72 crew members.

The vessel anchored off the coast of Montserrat on Friday, 13 December, and passengers were given the opportunity to explore the island by taking part in a choice of activities.

The first option was a tour of Soufriere Hills volcano, the Montserrat Volcano Observatory and Plymouth – the ‘Buried City’.

“See the active Soufriere Hills volcano on Montserrat from Plymouth port and learn why it may be called the Pompeii of the Caribbean,” the Emerald Cruises website says.

“No visitor to Montserrat should leave without having an encounter with Montserrat’s most captivating phenomena.

“On this excursion you will travel to Jack Boy Hill where you can see the volcano and remnants of WH Bramble Airport now completely buried by volcanic lava flows.”

The second option for passengers was a tour of the Montserrat National Trust botanical garden.

“Embark on a tranquil journey through the Montserrat National Trust gardens, where you will be introduced to the island’s rich variety of healing plants and herbs,” the website reads.

“This guided tour offers an immersive experience into Montserrat’s traditional medicinal practices, as you explore vibrant gardens filled with native flora used for centuries to promote health and well-being.

“Learn about the island’s natural remedies, from soothing teas to healing balms, and discover how these plants are still used today in local culture and holistic health practices.”

On the regional cruise, the boat travels from Puerto Rico to Antigua, making eight stops along the way, including in the US Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Sint Maarten and St Barts.

The Emerald Azzurra will be revisiting Montserrat on 27 December, 10 and 24 January, and 7 and 21 February.
