Fault on Little Bay feeder causes island-wide power outages

Montserrat Utilities Limited (MUL)’s dispatch crew are currently working to identify and rectify what appears to be an earthing fault on the Little Bay feeder.

According to a statement from the managing director at about 2.30pm, the fault triggered the protection protocols causing the operating generators to trip, resulting in island wide outages.

The Little Bay feeder has been isolated while the Cudjoe Head and South feeders have been reenergised, the statement continued.

Customers on the Little Bay feeder will remain without electricity until the fault is rectified.

“MUL apologises for the inconveniences and we are working rapidly to remedy the situation,” the managing director said.

In May this year, MUL offered “sincere apologies” for a spate of unscheduled power outages which it said were due to issues with generation equipment sensors and water-cooling systems.
