Fifteen of Montserrat’s top singers and performers will take the stage on Saturday, 21 December, for this year’s Calypso Monarch semi-finals.
The contestant order has been decided, and the judges named as Kenford Samuel, Astrid Wade, Evan Weekes, McLoyd White, Siobhan Tuitt and Vagan Daway.
The Montserrat Arts Council in a press release reminded that the points earned by each calypsonian during the eliminations will be added to the points earned in the semi-finals.
The top nine with the highest combined points will advance to the finals of the competition on 29 December to compete against the reigning monarch, Garnet ‘Sylk’ Thompson.
The two female calypsonians with the highest combined points from the eliminations and semi-finals will represent Montserrat in the regional female calypso competition ‘Queen of Queens’ on 30 December.
“The Montserrat Arts Council encourages all calypsonians to continue their hard work and dedication as they prepare for the semi-finals,” the press release said.
“We look forward to another exciting night of calypso.”
The competition will take place at 8pm at Carnival City in Little Bay. tickets are EC$20 for adults and $10 for children. Those that cannot attend can watch online at www.bakanal.tv
