Fishing boat with three onboard reported missing after leaving Antigua

A small fishing boat with three people onboard has been reported missing after leaving Antigua at least two days ago.

The 30-foot launch vessel (pictured) named ‘Moya’ is a grey colour with a white wheelhouse, a 250 horsepower Isuzu inboard engine and the registration number V2-547 PW.

The missing men are Mathias Greenaway, Glenmore Matthew and Clancy John.

Tricia Lovell, deputy chief fisheries officer with the Antigua and Barbuda Fisheries Division, said the boat is thought to have left Antigua either on Friday evening or Saturday morning.

“Based on the information received the vessel left to haul traps between Antigua and Barbuda and did not return as expected,” she told Montserrat Focus.

Lovell said the vessel was not being operated by the owner but by a crew member.

“We have been trying to reach the vessel owner to see if he could further [shed] light but so far have been unsuccessful,” she said.

The vessel owner was provided with VHF-Locator VMS tracker in 2021 as part of the division’s AIS Coastal Monitoring Programme to improve safety at sea.

The tracker alert was not triggered during the fishing trip.

Mariners are asked to report any sighting to the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force Coast Guard on VHF channel 16 or call (268) 462-3206, 462-2841 or 462-2843.
