Flights between Montserrat and Antigua to be cut by $200

From 1 June to 31 August, travellers on flights between Montserrat and Antigua will save EC$200 for each leg – or $400 on a return ticket.

In a press release on 23 May, the government announced its plans to pay airlines a subsidy of $200 per flight in or out of Montserrat throughout the summer.

“The airlines will quote the reduced fare to travellers and then claim the rebate from the Access Division,” Permanent Secretary Daphne Cassell told Montserrat Focus.

The two airlines that fly between Montserrat and Antigua are Fly Montserrat and BMN Air.

The news comes just weeks after the Access Division announced on 30 April that the Antigua to Montserrat ferry service had concluded.

In March, Premier Joseph E Farrell had assured the public that the service would be running for another year – at a cost of $17 million.

In the recent press release, the government thanked everyone “for their patience and understanding” while it tries to provide reliable and safe access to and from Montserrat.
