Free energy meters now available for Montserrat residents

The Ministry of Energy is offering residents in Montserrat free meters to help them to track their household energy usage.

Individuals can sign up for an audit to access the devices through the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) Resiliency and Energy Efficiency Project.

Selected participants can also learn how to save energy and reduce their monthly electricity bills, as well as receive free LED lightbulbs.

To apply residents must have a customer account with Montserrat Utilities Limited, and have access to the internet and their own email account.

Monthly electricity consumption must be below 400 kilowatt hours and participants must complete the baseline survey found here.

As part of the registration process, residents will need to commit to follow instructions for lightbulb installation, monitor energy usage and agree to share energy data.

The project is supported by the Resilience, Sustainable Energy and Marine Biodiversity (RESEMBID) Programme which supports sustainable human development in the Caribbean territories.

The six-year European Union-funded programme, which began in 2019, is implemented by Expertise France in collaboration with the World Bank’s Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery
