The government is asking qualified people to apply for the position of labour commissioner within the Department of Labour.
The job is advertised on the online jobs portal, however, no official public statement has been released yet as to the status of the current commissioner’s employment.
Rudolph Christopher – who has held the post for several years – is still listed as the labour commissioner on the government’s main website.
According to the job advert, the successful applicant will be responsible for managing the labour department’s day-to-day functions.
They must maintain “an environment of industrial peace and harmony between government, employers and employees”, it reads.
They must have a degree in management or labour administration from a recognised university or a relevant diploma with five years senior level management experience.
Some of the new commissioner’s main responsibilities will include developing corporate, business and functional plans for the department.
They will also have to prepare the annual budget to meet yearly objectives and present it for approval, and ensure effective deployment of labour department employees.
Other duties include keeping under review the situation of the employed, unemployed and under-employed, and advising the minister on labour matters.
The government is offering a wage of EC$65,556 to $72,192 and $10,320 in allowances for the role. Applications must be in by 9 July.
Other jobs currently available within the public service include nursery cook, nursery nurse, nursery school teacher, senior nursery nurse, groundsperson and tax administration reform specialist and advisor.
