Experienced civil servant Kenya Lee has been officially appointed as the Government of Montserrat’s financial secretary.
His role will begin on 1 June and he will be responsible for financial management and policy-making within the public service.
In a press release, Governor Sarah Tucker, who officially appointed Lee, offered her congratulations.
“This is a critical position for the public service and the Ministry of Finance, responsible for the continued enforcement and strengthening of good fiscal management and governance practices,” she said.
“This appointment demonstrates the significant work that Mr Lee and all of his team have accomplished. I wish him every success for the future.”
Lee has worked across key roles within the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management from 2009 to present.
Notably, he served as acting deputy financial secretary from 2020 to 2023, while concurrently holding the position of director of economic management and chief economist from 2018 to 2023.
Lee has a BSc in economics and management and a master’s degree in finance and economic policy.
“His extensive experience, knowledge and dedication to public service have prepared him for this critical leadership position,” the statement said.
Sometimes one has to pay attention to the timing of when a press release is issued.
Why was this one released late on Friday afternoon when everyone had already clocked out for the weekend?
Why was it announced in March for a June start?
Was the post advertised?
Interestingly, the press release did not indicate whether the appointment was on contract or if it is a permanent employment.
Congratulations to Mr Lee.
