Governor Sarah Tucker met this week with Montserratian actor Stedroy Cabey who is starring as Mufasa in the popular London, West End musical, The Lion King.
The 35-year-old, who has captured the attention of audiences in the internationally acclaimed production, put time aside for photographs with the governor and her husband after the show at the Lyceum Theatre.
Cabey, who moved to London at the age of 17 to pursue a passion for the arts, studied at the Rose Bruford College and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama at the University of London.
His career so far has included standout roles in The Lazarus Project (Sky TV), SUS at Park Theatre, and Above Romance at Catford Broadway Theatre.
He also returned home to star in 1768 at the Montserrat Cultural Centre.
A Facebook post from the Montserrat Government UK Office in October 2024 recognised Cabey as part of its Black History Month celebrations.
“Stedroy’s Montserratian identity is the driving force behind everything he does,” it read.
“A frequent visitor back home and a visible leader in the Montserratian community in London, he is dedicated to elevating the profile of Montserrat on the global stage.
“His passion for the arts, coupled with his deep love for his heritage, continues to shine brightly.”
