His Majesty’s Prison to get new security camera system

The Office of the Deputy Governor is seeking proposals from companies to design, supply and install a security camera system at His Majesty’s Prison.

They have until 3 July to express interest in the project which the government has listed on its tenders website.

“This system plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and security of inmates, staff and visitors,” a request for proposals says.

The deputy governor’s office expects bidders to conduct a site visit to carry out a needs assessment as part of preparations for their bid.

They will need to consult with prison superintendent and other security personnel to understand specific security concerns and requirements, the document explains.

During the visit, bidders will also need to evaluate high-risk areas such as entrances, perimeters, cell blocks, common areas, and other critical points.

Scalability and standards

The winning bidder will be required to develop a detailed design for the system, including camera types, placement, network architecture, and integration with existing systems.

They must ensure the design covers all required areas with optimal camera coverage and resolution, the document says.

The design should also include provisions for future scalability and accommodate over 30 cameras, while complying with all relevant legal and regulatory standards

And the system must be able to withstand hurricane-force winds, must be resilient to sea spray, and must store footage for up to 1 year.

The document adds that the bidder must integrate the new system with existing security infrastructure at the Brades facility, including monitoring stations and control systems.

Montserrat Focus has reached out to the Office of the Deputy Governor for details on the existing system at His Majesty’s Prison and is awaiting a response.
