School pupils and members of the public enjoyed a week of science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities during Montserrat’s first National STEM Week.
The Ministry of Communication, Works, Labour and Energy, the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports and Montserrat Volcano Observatory hosted the inaugural event.
It began on 22 April with a STEM quiz on the government’s ZJB Radio station, and people were also encouraged to tag #stemweeknmi on their social media accounts during the day.
Deputy Premier Samuel Joseph gave a talk on mathematics called ‘What is math and do we teach it?’ on 23 April.
And on 24 April, professionals from the STEM industries visited Montsterrat Secondary School to talk to form three students about future careers.
The organisers hosted a ‘Girls in ICT Day’ on 25 April, which included a field trip open to the public, offering attendees the opportunity to meet with female leaders in STEM.
And on the final day, 26 April, students and the public attended a STEM fair and exhibition at Montserrat Cultural Centre.
Pupils from St Augustine Catholic Primary School, Montserrat Brades Primary School and Look Out Primary School displayed their various STEM exhibits and experiments.
Government departments and public organisations also showcased some of the work they had been engaged in.
