MCAP announces full slate of candidates for general election

The Movement for Change and Prosperity (MCAP) has announced its full list of nine candidates for Montserrat’s upcoming general election.

Leading the political party is Samuel Joseph, who took over the role from former leader and current candidate Joseph E Farrell earlier this year.

The remaining candidates are Gilmore ‘Papchow’ Williams, Edris Pamela Wade, Crenston Buffonge, Siobhan Tuitt,  Jamiel Melissia Greenaway, Charliena White, and Edith Fenton.

The party unveiled the list at its annual convention on 15 August at the Look Out Primary School auditorium. The event was streamed live online.

Speaking during the convention, Samuel Joseph said it was a “great honour and privilege” to stand before his supporters as the leader of MCAP.

He said the party has adopted as its theme ‘Forward Together’, adding: “We sincerely believe that if we build the people, they will build Montserrat.”

“We have been through a lot as a nation – Covid, Hugo, volcano, we have even survived Romeo, but we are still here,” Joseph said.

“We all carry the wounds of the losses we have endured. We confront obstacles, including unjust and senseless ones.

“We tend to those wounds. We must push hard at those obstacles. We mustn’t lose sight of our goals. Montserrat will never die.”

Joseph said MCAP is dedicated to fostering equality and fairness in Montserrat and believes everyone should be “treated as one”.

“It is by working with each other we will accomplish our vision of a bright and prosperous future,” he said, adding: “This team will make it happen.”

The convention featured speeches from all of the remaining MCAP candidates as well as music and giveaways.

The party’s first political rally of 2024 will take place in Cudjoe Head on 22 August at 7pm.
