Cordella Yearwood has been appointed as the new cultural events coordinator with the Montserrat Arts Council.
In her new role she will be responsible for creating, developing, and supporting the programmes and priorities of the council, a press release said on 8 November.
She will also play a key role in fostering collaboration, working closely with private stakeholders and various government agencies to align resources and facilities with the council’s cultural agenda.
Her efforts will focus on managing these resources to support events that celebrate and promote Montserrat’s cultural heritage.
Yearwood brings a wealth of experience to the role, having worked as a sports office, and stage manager of cultural and theatrical events.
As a sports officer she was responsible for creation, budget management, planning and coordinating sporting programmes to enhance community involvement.
These included triathlon, community rounders, Women’s Day cricket and coordinating with facilities management to keep areas functional and professional.
As stage manager she facilitated the preparation of stage area, assisted technical teams in band set up and sound checks, and aided in the preparation of run sheets for production teams.
“Given that I have been a part of productions produced by the MAC and other local entities and individuals, this has given me an insight into what is required of me,” she said in the press release.
She added: “I am eager to take on the task through the creation of new programmes and improving where necessary staple programmes.”
