Montserrat celebrates National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving

In celebration of this year’s National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving on 10 July, a national service was held in Bethesda Methodist Church in Cavalla Hill.

Leading the service, titled ‘Moving in confidence’, were the Reverend Shane McFarlane and the Reverend Andrine Joseph who delivered a sermon.

It also featured prayer from Father Joel St Rose, Pastor Toney Allen, Bishop Melroy Meade, Pastor Peter Buffonge, Elder Joseph Galloway and the Reverend B R Allen among other faith leaders.

Premier Joseph E Farrell and Paul Lewis, leader of the Montserrat Legislative Assembly’s opposition, gave scripture readings.

And Charles Kirnon, minister with responsibility for ecclesiastical affairs, presented a talk on the history of the day.

During the ceremony, which was filled with music and song, the Reverend McFarlane told the congregation that “thanksgiving is not an idea of politics, it’s about what is due unto God”.

National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving was first held on 3 November, 1993.
