Montserrat flights delayed or suspended due to fuel shortage

Flights to and from Montserrat have been either delayed or cancelled because of aviation fuel supply issues in Antigua.

A government press release on Tuesday, 23 July, said both SVG Air and Fly Montserrat are making every effort to support the travelling public “during this time of difficulty”.

“Therefore, travellers, particularly those already booked, are encouraged to contact their ticketing agent to confirm travel or make the necessary rearrangements to avoid significant disruption in travel movements.

“The Access Division, Office of the Premier, would like to thank all for their patience and understanding as we continue to make every effort to provide reliable, safe access to and from Montserrat,” it read.

The problem is estimated to be resolved by Monday, 29 July.

A press release from FlyMontserrat on 24 July said it is conducting its current programme of fights as near to normal as possible.

“Yesterday all passengers booked with us flew, albeit a couple went half an hour late,” it read.

FlyMontserrat said the delays were due to there being no aviation fuel available at VC Bird International Airport since 22 July and no notice being given when it ran out.

“We have put in place rehearsed alternative supplies from elsewhere – which is currently working well with small delays,” the airline said.

“We are assessing the situation each day, and are not putting on extra fights until we know we can deliver for our existing passengers.”

The press release said updates will be put on the home page of the company’s website, www.flymoniserrat.com, and availability can be checked and bookings made online.

“We know there are other passengers who want to leave island and we will help as soon as we know the supply will last until Antigua’s stores are replenished, which we are told will be Monday, 29 July.”

Customers who want to be put on the wait list can email FlyMontserrat on info@flymontserrat.com giving date, connecting details and weights.

“Please can all passengers make sure that we have contact details in case of any changes to fight times,” the airline said.

“If anybody needs to change their fight please contact us by email as the phones are very busy.

FlyMontserrat passengers are asked to check in on time for their flights.
