Montserrat records 33 candidates for upcoming general election

A total of 33 electoral candidates will compete for seats in the Montserrat Legislative Assembly during the general election on 24 October.

The Electoral Commission published the complete list of candidates, which includes members of the island’s established political parties and independents, on Monday, 14 October.

This came four days after nomination day, which took place at the Montserrat Cultural Centre in Little Bay on 10 October.

The parties represented are the Movement for Change and Prosperity (MCAP), the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM), the United Alliance, and the Positive Progression for People (PPP).

MCAP’s candidates are Samuel Joseph, Joseph E Farrell, Gilmore Williams, Edris Pamela Wade, Crenston Buffonge, Siobhan Tuitt,  Jamiel Melissia Greenaway, Charliena White, and Edith Fenton.

The PDM candidates are Paul Lewis, Donaldson Romeo, Glenville Daley, Alaric Lynch, Nyota Mulcare, David Osborne, Eustace Osborne, Shirley Osborne, and Jermaine Wade.

United Alliance’s candidates are Reuben T Meade, Anne Thomas, Marjorie Smith, Jenzil Skerrit, Veronica Dorsette-Hector, John Osborne, Ingrid Buffonge and Dwayne Hixon.

Meanwhile, Karen Allen is the sole candidates for the PPP party.

Claude Gerald, Debra Lewis, Wilford Meade, Charlesworth Piper, Delmaude Ryan, and Vickie Stephenson are all independent candidates.

George Kirnon, who announced in September that he would be contesting the general election with the United Alliance, is not on the list.

The Electoral Commission website notes that the polls will open at 7am and close at 6pm on 24 October, and details the locations of the polling stations.

On the day, 3,464 registered voters can mark their cross next to up to nine candidates. The votes will be counted at the Montserrat Cultural Centre in Little Bay.
