Montserrat to hold general election on 24 October

Governor Sarah Tucker has signed a proclamation to pave the way for Montserrat’s general election to take place this October.

After consulting with the Premier Joseph E Farrell, as according to the island’s constitution, she signed the document on 22 August, dissolving parliament.

She issued the proclamation and appointed 24 October as the date for the island’s general election, a government press release said on 23 August.

The governor then signed the writ of election to allow for the nomination of candidates on 10 October at the Montserrat Cultural Centre in Little Bay.

The last general election in Montserrat was held on 18 November, 2019.
