Montserrat to host regional basketball tournament this week

The Montserrat Amateur Basketball Association (MABA) is hosting players from across the region this week in its annual basketball invitational tournament.

Participating teams include Saint Kitts and Nevis, Sint Eustatius, the British Virgin Islands, as well as Montserrat.

The tournament is scheduled from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 to 14 December, starting at 7pm each evening at the multipurpose sports complex in Little Bay.

Montserrat’s team will be coached by Holren Bobb and Jenzil Skerritt, with Astrid Wade serving as team manager.

This weekend, MABA announced the players selected to represent the island.

They are Kriston Yearwood, Ervin Liburd, Stevel Rodney, DyVaun Sweeney, Jahzeek Weekes, Rhizwahn Harris, Rushshawn Fenton, Nisai Popo, Kiano Woods,  Rahsaan Thomas, Tay’Jorn Barzey, and Te’Shaun Philip.

Joshua Winspeare, Diego Benjamin and Kurjean Israel have been named as reserves.

The opening ceremony will begin at 6.30pm on 10 December, preceding the first two games. Saint Kitts and Nevis will face Sint Eustatius, and the British Virgin Islands will take on Montserrat.

Tickets are priced at EC$10 for adults and EC$5 for children. For those unable to attend in person, the games will be live-streamed on the Philomagic Media YouTube channel.
