Montserrat’s reigning calypso monarch will be competing with the Leeward Islands champion – also from Montserrat – for this year’s regional crown.
According to a statement on the Montserrat Festivals’ Facebook page, this is “history in the making for the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean, Montserrat”.
“It is an opportunity of a lifetime and must be cherished and not taken for granted,” it added ahead of the Leeward Islands Calypso Monarch Competition.
“For the first time in history of this competition, there are two Montserratians vying for the top spot with great potential to be in the top three positions.”
Montserrat’s monarch Garnet ‘SYLK’ Thompson and Leeward Islands monarch Keithroy ‘De Voice’ Morson will compete for the title in Anguilla on Saturday, 10 August.
Kenneth Silcott, director of Montserrat Arts Council, and backing singer Ronel White will join the talented pair on their trip.
Silcott said: “We cannot afford to miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase the talents, skills and prowess of our artist at this magnitude of regional representation regardless of budget constraints”.
