Head of the Montserrat Government UK Office, Kei-Retta Farrell, delivered an opening address at the 10th Miss Caribbean UK pageant this November.
While Montserrat’s pageant queens did not feature in the final line up for the event on 2 November, the government’s UK representative made sure the island was represented.
Speaking on behalf of the Caribbean high commissioners, she said: “Tonight we’re not just representing the achievements but the unity of our community, the passion and our cultural legacy.”
She said the event is about shining the light on the contributions of the Caribbean community and raising its profile.
This year, the Miss Caribbean UK pageant celebrates a decade of empowering Caribbean women and strengthening community ties.
A statement from the Montserrat Government UK Office said: “From a Caribbean diaspora perspective, events like Miss Caribbean UK are essential in preserving and celebrating Caribbean heritage abroad.
“They provide a platform for young women to grow through mentorship, coaching, and philanthropy, instilling values that go beyond the pageant stage.
“By showcasing the strength, talent, and resilience of Caribbean women, this event reinforces cultural pride and unity across generations, creating a space where Caribbean identity is nurtured and celebrated.”
The office sent congratulations to Clayton and Jacqui Brown for their successful event and the legacy they have built.
It added that it looks forward to continuing its support for Miss Caribbean UK and hopes to extend this support to other initiatives that empower and celebrate the Caribbean community in the UK.
Shakyrah Davis, who has roots in Antigua and Barbuda, won first prize at the pageant. The other four finalists represented Aruba, Jamaica, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago.
