Montserrat’s political parties unveil manifestos ahead of poll day

With just over a week left until Montserrat’s general election, all four political parties have published their full manifestos.

The detailed documents lay out plans and policies on key issues such as economic growth, healthcare, infrastructure, renewable energy, unemployment, education, and development.

Available below for review, the manifestos offer a detailed insight into each party’s vision for the future and could play a crucial role in guiding decision making at the polls.

MCAP

The Movement for Change and Prosperity (MCAP) party launched its 32-page manifesto on 10 October with an event at Look Out Primary School’s auditorium.

Representing MCAP are Samuel Joseph, Joseph E Farrell, Gilmore Williams, Edris Pamela Wade, Crenston Buffonge, Siobhan Tuitt,  Jamiel Melissia Greenaway, Charliena White, and Edith Fenton.

PDM

The People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) party launched its 46-page manifesto on 16 October during a programme on ZJB Radio.

Representing PDM are Paul Lewis, Donaldson Romeo, Glenville Daley, Alaric Lynch, Nyota Mulcare, David Osborne, Eustace Osborne, Shirley Osborne, and Jermaine Wade.

PPP

The Positive Progression for People (PPP) party launched its 10-page manifesto back in July on One Radio Montserrat.

The sole candidate representing PPP at the election is Karen Allen.

United Alliance

The United Alliance party launched its 12-page manifesto on 21 August with an event at the Davy Hill Community Centre.

Representing United Alliance are Reuben T Meade, Anne Thomas, Marjorie Smith, Jenzil Skerrit, Veronica Dorsette-Hector, John Osborne, Ingrid Buffonge and Dwayne Hixon.

Election day

A total of 33 electoral candidates will compete for seats in the Montserrat Legislative Assembly during the general election.

The six independent candidates are Claude Gerald, Debra Lewis, Wilford Meade, Charlesworth Piper, Delmaude Ryan, and Vickie Stephenson.

Polls will open at 7am and close at 6pm on 24 October. Full details of the locations of the polling stations are available on the Electoral Commission website here.

On the day, 3,464 registered voters can select their favourite representative in the areas of Salem, St Peter’s, Brades, Davy Hill, St John’s, Look Out or through mobile polling.

The votes will be counted on 24 October at the Montserrat Cultural Centre in Little Bay.
