Premier Joseph E Farrell is in Antigua this week for the first United Kingdom-Caribbean multi-sector trade and investment mission.
On Monday and Tuesday, 11 and 12 March, he will have the opportunity to engage with several leading UK businesses and seek out investment opportunities.
Areas of specialty are expected to include renewable energy, aviation, agriculture, international shipping and logistics, and global trade, a government press release said.
Accompanying the premier on the trip is Martin Parlett, head of the Programme Management Office, and Alba Smeriglio from the Governor’s Office.
The Antigua Observer described the four-day mission as a platform to facilitate bilateral trade and investment opportunities between Britain and the public and private sectors.
Chet Greene, Antigua’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, said the UK market represents “significant potential” for growth in agriculture, renewable energy, fast moving consumer goods and the blue and green economy.
British High Commissioner to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Scott Furssedonn-Wood, echoed the minister’s sentiments, the Antigua Observer reported.
“This mission will provide a unique opportunity to explore how British businesses and UK expertise can support the ambitions of Antigua and Barbuda, and deliver benefits for us all,” he said.
