Taxi drivers and tour guides that operate throughout Montserrat have received training on tourism techniques from local experts and stakeholders.
The Montserrat Tourism Authority hosted the week-long training workshop at the Davy Hill Community Centre and the Disaster Management Coordination Agency conference room.
It took place from 4 to 11 November and the 29 participants received comprehensive training in tour guiding techniques.
This included story telling of the historical and cultural heritage of Montserrat, visitor engagement, essential first aid, as well as practical VHF radio training for communication during tours.
The programme culminated in a hands-on simulation exercise, taking participants on a route from Marine Village in Little Bay to the museum in Richmond Hill.
This allowed them to apply their training in a real-life scenario, a spokesperson from the Montserrat Tourism Authority said.
The authority welcomed the newly trained and certified taxi and tour guides and said the participants are now better prepared to offer visitors a rich and informative experience.
Among the local experts that acted as trainers were Ann Marie Dewar who taught the history component, Norman Cassell who taught the tour guiding and facilitated the simulation exercise.
Montserrat Red Cross led the basic first aid training and Kelvin White from the Disaster Management Coordination Agency hosted the VHF radio training.
