Uniformed services march in celebration of King’s birthday

Dozens of spectators gathered at Salem Park on 15 June to watch Montserrat’s uniformed services take part in King Charles III’s birthday parade.

The grand event, marking the King’s 76th birthday, was open to both dignitaries and members of the public.

Taking part were members of the Royal Montserrat Defence Force, Royal Montserrat Police Service, the Montserrat Fire and Rescue Service, and His Majesty’s Prison Service.

Younger Montserratians also joined the parade as members of the Montserrat Secondary School Cadet Corp, Girl Guides, Brownies and Rainbows.

During the event, Acting Governor Lyndell Simpson inspected all units, as is part of custom, and attendees were treated to a march past and royal salutes.

Nine members of the uniformed services were then given awards for their years of dedicated service.

They were:

Colonial Long Service Medal (18 years)

– Acting Superintendent Chantal Hussey

– Sergeant Maxcine Lee

– Sergeant Micah Hilton

– Police Constable Leon Edwards

– Firefighter Adrian Carty

Colonial Prison Service Medal (18 years)

– Functional head Oswald Joseph Titus West

– Functional head Randolph Reynold Dyett

– Prison officer Irose Weekes

Efficiency Decoration (12 years)

– Captain Glenroy Wendell Foster

Clasp to the Efficiency Medal (24 years)

– Corporal Oswald Joseph Titus West

The uniformed personnel then marched up to Salem Centre and continued along the main road to Montserrat Secondary School.

Retired captain Peter W A White OBE and fellow commentators presented the event live for the government’s YouTube channel.

The public holiday for King Charles III’s birthday was observed on 17 June.
