The Montserrat Tourism Authority and the Montserrat Arts Council have announced the winners of the 2024 Christmas Lighting Competition.
Five participants took the top spots and walked away with cash prizes in recognition of their creative contributions to the competition.
The ‘Just WOW’ award went to Everlyn White who received the biggest prize of EC$1,200.
In the residential category, the first prize of $800 went to Silvia White and second prize of $400 went to Rhannon Daley-Williams.
In the business category, Beni’s Jewellery won the first prize of $800 and Gertrude Ryan walked away with the second prize of $400.
Everyone who entered was judged on the criteria of visual appeal, cohesive theme, creativity, variety of decorations and lights, and overall effect.
The competition saw an impressive array of designs, with participants elevating and expanding their displays to make an even greater impact than previous years.
A government press release on 7 January said the annual tradition celebrates the island’s creativity and festive spirit, allowing residents, business owners, and community groups showcase their creative talents.
“Participant registrations were lower than usual this year, however the persons who undertook the challenge dazzled with displays that blended artistry and imagination,” it added.
Alongside the competition, the Montserrat Tourism Authority and Montserrat Arts Council illuminated the Little Bay ‘Wonderland’ area to include the war memorial and public market.
The press release extended special recognition to Jacquie Ryan, the visionary behind ‘The Wonderland’, as well as Sharmen and Wendel Williams and their team for their creativity and dedication.
It continued: “Building on this year’s success, we invite more residents, businesses, and community groups to register for the 2025 Christmas Lighting Competition.
“Your creativity can enhance the island’s holiday spirit and make the festive season more spectacular.”
The authority and council are encouraging the community to donate lights for this year’s public display.
