Firefighters extinguish blaze behind Port Authority building

Firefighters “promptly addressed” a blaze at the rear of the Montserrat Port Authority premises in Little Bay and brought it under control, according to police.

A Facebook statement from the Royal Montserrat Police Service, said the fire was discovered on 2 June and officers of the Montserrat Fire and Rescue Service attended.

Acting Commissioner of Police Mark Payne said that following an inspection of the area, members of the public are advised to not to use the trail from Little Bay to Rendezvous Beach until further notice.

“This will ensure that there is no risk to the public should the fire re-ignite. We will re-assess the position in 24 hours’ time,” the statement said.
