Pupils wear colourful socks for World Down Syndrome Day

Teachers and pupils from Brades Primary School put on their most mismatched or colourful socks this Thursday, 21 March, in support of World Down Syndrome Day.

The aim of the global ‘Lots of Socks’ campaign is to get people talking about Down syndrome and combatting the stigma attached to the condition.

“Students not only demonstrated their solidarity with individuals with Down syndrome but also showcased their commitment to fostering inclusivity and understanding within our school community.

“This simple yet impactful gesture served as a visual reminder to embrace diversity and celebrate the unique abilities of all individuals, regardless of their differences,” a school Facebook post read.

Throughout the day, students engaged in meaningful conversations and activities about inclusion and acceptance, furthering their education on important social issues.

“The spirit of unity and compassion exhibited by our pupils exemplifies the values of empathy and respect that we strive to instil in our learning environment,” the school said.

World Down Syndrome Day is a global awareness day that the United Nations has officially observed since 2012.

Its aim is to create a single voice advocating for the rights, inclusion and well being of people with Down syndrome.
